Tough Mudder weeks 7&8 I got a PR in the SNOW!

Ok, the last two weeks have been putting my dedication to the test. Crazy schedules, changes, WET, COLD weather and the like!

Beauty and the Cold….we ran and ran…
Off of freedigitalphotos.net by Marcus74

March 12-18- Good week, got my set in on Monday, Ran on Wednesday 4+ miles, Roller Skated for 2 hours on Friday- yes you read it right- and it was a blast- made me miss competing! Followed Saturday with a PR on the 5K St Patrick’s Day run in Snoqualmie! On this run I was cold, my feet were numb for half the run, and my Ipod shut off because it got too cold- and I STILL got a PR of 27:43- Totally awesome! I was also SO proud of my eldest son for doing this run despite the snow and cold- he worked SO hard and it paid off.

Last wee- from the 19th-25th-

Did on set on Monday, Ran 4 miles and did a set on Wednesday, worked in my yard for 2 hours on Thursday and had a ROCKIN run on Sunday 6.5 miles strong and almost ran my entire hill without stopping- trust me if you saw the hill I was talking about you would be impressed!

Loving the payoff of eight weeks of steady running- spending the next two weeks doing Paleo, some fasting, and the Litvinov workout with a kettle bell- so if you see me swinging a kettle bell and then running away from it- don’t worry I will be back- again- and again -and again- so cheer me on!

F*#K the Goody Bag!

OK, if you know me, swearing is not off limits- I just read this article and it got me going.

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/avantgo/2017750670.html

Obviously the people at the Seattle Times didn’t READ the article they put the photo with- the photo of a store in New York (ugh) called Doodle Doos- DEDICATED to children’s birthday party favors. Now why was this photo wrong for the article? The article is talking about how the trend of children’s goody bags have gotten out of hand! And you feature a STORE for goody bags! UGH!!!!

Since when are kids goody bags supposed to rival what adults get at conventions... cute bag though- image from them http://www.skiphop.com

This trend has bugged me since my eldest started going to parties  and the bags keep getting bigger. When he was young I decided if I was going to do this whole “send them home with something” routine I would make is special, and not something expensive or cheesy! For one of my son’s parties I sewed Harry Potter hats for everyone (total cost about $20 and 2 hours) another one I made capes for everyone (also total cost about $20 and 2 hours). These were fun gifts the kids used at the party and then got to take home to play with for a long time and wouldn’t end up in the garbage.

I love to have birthday parties at my home, it gives me a chance to meet the kids I hear about outside of the highly structured “playdate.” It is amazing to me how we have made everything need a goody bag, prize, award or something else. What ever happened to thank you for coming?

OK, rant done, glad I don’t live where a goody-bag store can actually stay in business! Or do I……

My Tough Mudder Week 6 More Struggle!

So last week was another crazy week- great on lots of fronts but my hubby was away so managing the house solo is always different and it showed up in my workouts.

Last week I..

Monday- Did a great session from Belton and got a killer workout

Tuesday- Nada!

Wednesday went to the gym, ran 3 miles and then did half of a Belton set!

Thursday- Nada!

Friday- Again- Nada!

Saturday- you guessed it Nada!

Sunday- Had my BEST 5 3/4 mile run yet! The last six weeks of building up my base in running has really started to pay off! On Saturday I am running a 5K and I am shooting for PR of under 30 minutes – if you just laughed at how slow I am – stop reading!

Anyway, I am excited, my older son is running the 5k too, my younger is doing the 1k and my amazing hubby is supporting our youngest- AWESOME- and when we are done we will get food!

SLACKER~ Almost! My Tough Mudder Week 5

So this week I was almost a total slacker! Why? Well my Sunday run last weekend with my sister-in-law in the SNOW in Birch Bay with the beginning of a cold slowed me down. I chose to take a few days off and see if my body sorted its way through the head cold- thankfully it did. With a little Arbonne Get Well Soon, sleep and good food I finally felt better by Friday- but didn’t get back to running until Saturday.

So my training for this week was pretty simple-

Strong 5-mile run on Saturday

Solid 3.6 mile run cut short by the headache induced by the guy who got on the machine next to me RIGHT after he put on his cologne! I made up for the early cut off by playing with my kids for the next hour in the pool!

Another great week, excited for more training and laughing with my kids along the way. St. Patrick’s Day Dash in Snoqualmie here I come!

Zumba, what ALL women NEED to learn to do with their hips!

Zumba, been hearing about it for ages, wondered what it was all about, but just hadn’t managed to get to a class. This

What we feel like when we Zumba!

Zumba!

weekend I was in Bellingham for my sister’s 50th Birthday weekend. We had the chance to attend a free Zumba class. It ended up being the five of us plus the instructor, so basically a private birthday party class! This is the first exercise class I have ever been to which uses both hip and rib isolations! Now the funny part was realizing all these different dance methods incorporated into one class and how bad we all were at moving our hips! I think all women should take Zumba to learn how to move their hips! If we do this maybe we will have healthier hips and maybe a better time in the bedroom!

Laughing at myself and loving what I learned this weekend!

My Tough Mudder Training Week #4

Hello again and here we are in week Four of my Tough Mudder Training!

Here is how the week went:

Monday- Kids had the day off so enjoyed relaxing at home!

Tuesday- Did a full round of Belton’s Medicine Ball workout.

Wednesday- Ran 3.5 miles and did set of 10 TRX pushup/mountainclimbers

Thursday- Rand 3.5 miles again and did abs.

Friday- CRAZY DAY, just did Yoga in the evening

Saturday- SO much fun, did Zumba today- that is a whole other post….

Sunday- Ran in Birch Bay, in the SNOW with my sister and sister-in-law, totally struggled today fighting a head cold and not having full lung capacity or enough clothes for running in the snow! Beautiful day though and great chance to run with family!

On to next week.

Will you be remembered?

Do we get second chances? How do you know when you fall asleep you will wake up? Faith? Hope? Foolish assumption? Officer Chapin died this week in his sleep. He, like most of us, will have no idea which day is our last until it happens. The flowers and memories pouring out in this community are moving and powerful. There are not many people who leave that kind of an impact.

What impact will you leave? Will you leave a wake of goodness, or a mere ripple? My mother’s church was full, full of family, friends, and many, many students. She was a good teacher and changed many lives with her gifts. She gave and they received, not always knowing what she gave until much later.

As I drove by and saw the flowers for our local officer I hope he knew how much this community cared about him. I never met him, but often saw his familiar face by the high school, watching, patient and pleasant. His job couldn’t have been easy. High school is not many of our best times, but I am sure, as I see in my own growing son, he saw the beauty and preciousness of his charges.

I learned via Facebook after he died that he once dressed up as Hannah Montana for the fun of it and could enjoy the fun moment in front of the school. That is someone who truly lived his life with a servant’s heart. He touched so many more people than he realized. He has left a wake, which will leave waves crashing on many shores for years to come. I am left wondering, will I leave a wake or a ripple?

Loving Fit Bottom Girls Blog

She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not: Kristen vs. the Treadmill

Just got done reading the “she loves me, she loves me not post” by Kristen on Fit Bottom  Girls- great site and blog. Made me smile how many thoughts we had alike on enjoying the treadmill- push a button and it makes you go faster- to people watching. Awesome stuff.

All for tonight- tomorrow on to the gym for 3.5 miles and a set of Belton’s med ball slamfest!

Week #3 of My Tough Mudder Training

So this week was good, and for some reason I seem to not get training done on Thursdays which has been my plan. Anyway- for accountability here we go-

Monday – Crazy day getting ready for kid’s mid-winter break.

Tuesday- Happy Valentine’s Day and ran 3 miles.

Wednesday- Crazy day and family visit so no workout

Thursday- Another family day so no workout

Friday- To the gym and ran 3.5 miles and did 1/2 a round of Belton’s workout. I ran at an 8:30 pace on the treadmill- smoking fast for me.

Saturday- Did one full round of Belton’s workout, except still can’t do the full 10 sets of TRX mountain climbers with a push up- keep dying on the push-up part.

Sunday- Ran 4 miles, it was colder than I expected and came home with numb hands. Ooof.

Overall a good week, weighed in at 154.8 at the gym, good number.
